In December 2015 Above Barbados were approached about flying a 360 virtual reality camera setup across Barbados, a job of interest we eagerly set about delivering.

After a week of creating the mounts and tethers for the 360 camera rig the filming commenced in January. A four day shoot, at various locations across the island it was going to be an exciting challenge.

The weight of the 360 rig, while challenging, was handled perfectly by our aerial platform. A different approach to flying was required to normal and careful consideration had to be given to the momentum and loads on the unit.

On completion of a successful series of shoots the immersive, breathtaking final video produced can be seen on the New York Times VR app, YouTube and across the world.

Read on our blog about the equipment used and methods taken to get the 360 aerial views.
